Why do children’s vision become blurry?
Myopia (nearsightedness) is a type of refractive errors that affect vision. Our eyes function like a camera.
The eye lens acts as the camera lens, responsible for adjusting the focus of light.
The retina works like the camera’s film, capturing light to form images. Normally, when light enters the eye, it is focused on the retina to form a clear image.
When myopia occurs, changes in our eyeballs cause the light from far distance to focus in front of the retina resulting in a blurry image.

Which children are more likely to have myopia?
Genetic Factors
(accounting for 30%1 of total factors)
Poor Visual Habits
(accounting for 70%2 of total factors)
Early Myopia Onset
Rapid Myopia Progression
If one parent is myopic,
the risk of the child being nearsighted triples.
If both parents are myopic, the risk increases sixfold.
Less than two hours of outdoor activities each day
Increased near work such as
reading closeup/ long screen time
Insufficient sleep
Myopia onset at < 8 years old
High risk of moderate to high myopia
Myopia onset at > 12 years old
Low risk of moderate to high myopia
Progresses faster than average among same age group
Higher myopia than average among same age group
Or Faster annual growth in refractive power and axial length

The axial length is the length between the corneal surface of the eyeball and the fovea of the macula. It is highly relevant to myopia1. In most cases, myopia is caused by the growth of the axial length. The longer the axial length, the higher the myopia. Like a child’s height, once the axial length increases, it can no longer be reversible2.
Data monitoring on axial length

Act Early in Myopia Management!
Early prevention, early detection, early control
Although myopia is irreversible, it can be prevented and managed1. To protect children’s vision, consider the following recommendations 2:
Ensure sufficient time for outdoor activities
No less than 2 hours a day, And a total of no less than 14 hours weekly; Ambient illumination no less than 3000 LUX.
Healthy near-work habits
School-age children should not read/ see up close for more than two hours a day outside school. Including reading, writing and using digital screens, etc.
20-20-20 Eye Rule
After every 20 minutes of close work, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away (about six meters), e.g. grass, trees and scenery.
Regular eye checks
Establish a refractive file for a child, and re-check every three to six months to monitor changes in refractive power and axial length.
Wear Glasses and Timely Correction
When children develop myopia, consult a professional optometrist for timely eye exam and intervention measures.

How to choose the right pair of lenses for your children?
Research shows that1 myopic children without wearing glasses can experience an annual myopic progression of -1.00 to -1.50D.
Myopic children wearing single vision glasses progress by -0.50 to -1.00D per year;
Myopic children wearing myopia management glasses can slower annual myopia progression to within -0.50D 2.
Without glasses
Myopia progresses by
-1.00 to -1.50D per year
With single-vision glasses
Myopia progresses by
-0.50 to -1.00D per year
With myopia management glasses
Myopia progresses by
less than -0.50D per year
Normal Glasses
Myopia Management Glasses
Single vision lenses
Vision correction only
Central area of the lens provides clear vision
Light from the lens periphery falls behind the retina,
resulting in possible eyeball elongation and thus increasing the risk of progressing myopia.
Effect
Vision correction only
Defocus lens design
Concentric ring microstructures
Slow down progression of axial elongation
Central clear zone provides clear vision.
Special design allows peripheral light to be projected on and in front of the retina
Eliminate signals that stimulate axial elongation, thereby effectively control myopia
Effect
Slow down progression of axial elongation

How important is it to check your eyes regularly?
How important is it to check your eyes regularly?
One single eye examination cannot tell the development trend of a child's eye health. Experts suggest that regular eye check should be conducted starting from the birth of a child. A refractive development file can be established between the ages of 0 and 3. Regular check-ups and longitudinal records are essential.
A comprehensive refractive development record should at least include information on refractive power changes in the past 6-12 months. It includes three key elements: axial length, refractive power and unaided visual acuity of both eyes. It is a "barometer" of eye health and provides an early indication for myopia onset.
